Xcel Energy crews have made significant progress in restoring electricity to customers affected by a severe windstorm and Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) that struck Colorado on Friday. As of Sunday morning, about 58,000 customers had their power restored, while approximately 15,000 remained without service. The company expects most remaining outages to be resolved by Sunday evening.
Restoration efforts are ongoing in areas heavily impacted by the storm, particularly around Evergreen and Boulder. Repairs include replacing utility poles and using helicopters to access difficult locations. Resource centers have been set up for affected residents, where Xcel Energy RED Trucks are present to provide support and information.
According to Xcel Energy, “Severe weather conditions on Friday created an extreme wildfire risk, leading Xcel Energy to implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) yesterday in Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties. The conditions created additional outages to customers not impacted by the PSPS.”
The company emphasized safety for both workers and the public during restoration operations: “As crews continue to work today, their safety is paramount, and Xcel Energy asks customers to help keep crew members safe as they work diligently to restore power as quickly as possible.”
