Xcel Energy is encouraging public participation in its 15th annual Day of Service, scheduled for September 11-13. The event offers volunteers the chance to assist with nonprofit projects across Colorado, including Denver, Grand Junction, Alamosa, Pueblo and Fort Collins. Activities include both indoor and outdoor options such as land stewardship, meal packing for those facing food insecurity, assembling educational kits for classrooms and youth programs, and hosting a field day for adults with intellectual disabilities.
“We are always looking for ways to make energy work better for our customers and communities, and what better way than using our energy by providing hands-on support to our local non-profits during our annual Day of Service,” said Robert Kenney, president of Xcel Energy—Colorado. “We have a long history of investing in the communities we are privileged to serve and we’re proud to give our time and resources to make a difference in the lives around us. People of all ages and abilities can participate—we invite you to come join us.”
The Day of Service has been held annually since 2010 and is Xcel Energy’s largest volunteer initiative. In 2024, nearly 2,200 participants contributed about 7,900 hours across eight states where Xcel Energy operates. Volunteers packed approximately 130,000 meals last year. The effort supported over 100 nonprofits and resulted in an economic impact exceeding $260,000.
The event was established as a tribute to victims, survivors and first responders of September 11th as well as others who contribute to community safety. It aims to bring together Xcel Energy employees and community members on projects that benefit local organizations.
Xcel Energy serves millions of customers across eight states: Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico and Texas. The company focuses on reliable electricity and gas service while advancing clean energy initiatives.
