US 550 Red Mountain Pass was closed on August 5 to support search and rescue operations, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The closure is located at Mile Point 88.5.

The department stated that the difficult terrain in the area could mean the closure will last for much of the day. Motorists are advised to find alternate routes while crews work in the region.

“Search and rescue operations are underway; however, due to the challenging terrain, the closure may be in place for much of the day, and motorists are urged to seek alternate routes,” said officials from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

More information about road closures can be found on CDOT’s Highway Closure Alert Map.
