The University of Colorado’s Federal Relations and Counsel has released an update covering several federal policy developments as of December 5. The topics addressed include ongoing litigation and regulatory changes affecting higher education institutions.

The update notes recent activity in the lawsuit regarding the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education (ED), as well as developments related to the ED Foreign Funding Portal. Other legal matters discussed include the Department of Justice’s response to a lawsuit involving H-1B visas, and a separate DOJ case concerning in-state tuition policies.

Additionally, updates are provided on new screening procedures from the State Department, reorganization efforts at the Department of Energy, and the release of an artificial intelligence strategy by the Department of Health and Human Services. Guidance from the National Institutes of Health on extramural activities is also included, along with information about work toward finalizing the National Defense Authorization Act.
