The University of Colorado (CU) system’s Office of Academic Affairs is currently accepting applications and nominations for its fall awards and grants.

One opportunity available is the President’s Fund for the Humanities (PFH) Grant. The PFH Grant was created to support faculty research and scholarly activities in the arts and humanities at CU. According to the Office of Academic Affairs, “The fund aims to preserve balance in the university’s education and research programs, and to support dynamic and innovative research and creativity in the arts and humanities.” Successful applicants will present a well-developed project rooted in these fields with clear outcomes. The grant offers up to $15,000 for one year, which may include a course buyout or funding for scholarly or creative work.

Eligibility for the PFH Grant requires applicants to be full-time CU tenured faculty, tenure-track faculty, or full-time instructional and clinical teaching faculty with at least 20% workload dedicated to scholarly work. Proposals are accepted from any discipline as long as they fit within an artistic or humanistic framework. Faculty who have not completed final reports from previous PFH awards are not eligible. Applications must be submitted by November 17.

Another recognition open this fall is the Thomas Jefferson Award. This award is funded by an endowment from the McConnell Foundation and a bequest by Harrison Blair. It recognizes students, staff, and faculty whose achievements show superior performance in their regular work or scholarship as well as notable involvement in humanitarian activities.

“Ideal candidates demonstrate: broad interests in literature, arts and sciences, and public affairs; a strong concern for the advancement of higher education; a deeply seated sense of individual civic responsibility; and a profound commitment to the welfare and rights of the individual,” according to the Office of Academic Affairs.

Eligible nominees include full-time CU faculty members at all professorial ranks, full-time students, and full-time staff members. Self-nominations are not permitted. Nominations are due by December 8.

For more information about these opportunities or questions regarding eligibility or submission procedures, interested parties can contact the Office of Academic Affairs.
