Union members in Washington, D.C. have established a food pantry to support those affected by the ongoing government shutdown, which has now lasted over 30 days. The initiative provides canned goods to the public and seeks donations for local food banks that are assisting laid-off federal employees. Some of these workers are members of IAM Union and NFFE-IAM.
The effort comes as federal SNAP funding is nearing its end, increasing concerns about food security among furloughed government workers.
