Rocky Mountain PBS (RMPBS) and Xcel Energy have announced a new partnership aimed at increasing wildfire preparedness across Colorado. The initiative, called Partners in Prevention, is designed to provide education and resources to help residents reduce wildfire risks.

The program brings together RMPBS, Xcel Energy, first responders, city and state agencies, the American Red Cross, and other community organizations. Their goal is to deliver practical information about wildfire prevention through television broadcasts, online platforms, community events, and educational materials for families.

Amanda Mountain, President & CEO of Rocky Mountain Public Media, said: “At Rocky Mountain PBS, our mission is to serve the public good by providing trusted, relevant information that helps Coloradans navigate critical issues. Through Partners in Prevention, we’re working with Xcel Energy and safety-focused partners across the state to amplify lifesaving information—especially to those communities that are hardest to reach.”

As part of this launch, an online resource hub has been created featuring safety guidance and tips for preparing for wildfires. This hub will also offer educational content for children and families as well as links to emergency resources. Additional content will be added over time.

Robert Kenney, President of Xcel Energy Colorado stated: “Public outreach is a core principle of our wildfire mitigation strategy. Helping our customers and emergency responders stay informed and prepared can save lives and property. Preventing catastrophic wildfires takes collective action, and everyone has a role to play.”

Partners in Prevention aims to support communities before, during, and after emergencies by reinforcing both organizations’ commitment to public service.

Xcel Energy provides energy services across eight Western and Midwestern states from its headquarters in Minneapolis. The company focuses on reducing carbon emissions while delivering clean energy solutions at competitive prices. More details about their efforts can be found at xcelenergy.com/Wildfire.

Rocky Mountain PBS serves more than one million viewers each month with programming focused on education and diverse storytelling from Colorado communities.
