The Pennsylvania State Council of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) recently held its 2025 conference, where union leaders and members discussed key developments affecting labor in the state and beyond.

During the event, IAM Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo addressed attendees about current political conditions in Washington, D.C., emphasizing how national policies are impacting union members. Addeo also delivered a message on the importance of advocating for union rights: “We must continue to fight for our rights as union members and refuse to be silenced.”

Richie Johnsen, IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President, provided an update on compensation trends within the sector. He reported that mechanics working in air transport, especially at American Airlines, have achieved hourly wages exceeding $70.

David Sullivan, IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President, spoke about efforts by the IAM to defend worker rights against challenges from policymakers in Washington. “We stand strong for our membership against those forces who seek to destroy worker rights,” he told delegates.

Delegates at the conference also expressed strong support for Janelle Stelson, endorsing her candidacy for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 10th district due to her pro-labor stance. Additional presentations during the conference covered subjects such as legal issues facing unions, OSHA safety standards, anti-union campaign tactics, and involvement in community initiatives.

The meeting concluded with calls for increased member participation in upcoming elections. Leaders stressed the importance of supporting pro-labor candidates and Supreme Court judges in Pennsylvania to protect workers’ interests.
