As Thanksgiving break approaches, Superintendent Dr. Brian Hill of Mesa County Valley School District 51 expressed gratitude for the contributions of teachers, staff, students, and families throughout the district. In a message to the community, Dr. Hill acknowledged the efforts made by various members of the school system, including classroom teachers, transportation staff, food service workers, maintenance teams, and those supporting student wellness.

“Whether you’re teaching in a classroom, transporting students to and from school on a bus, preparing healthy meals, maintaining our buildings, supporting student wellness, or serving behind the scenes, your work matters, and it makes a difference every day! Thank y’all for showing up with commitment, care, and a passion for serving our students,” Dr. Hill said. He added his hope that the upcoming week would offer rest and connection for all.

Dr. Hill highlighted a video produced by Fruita Monument High School students sharing their thoughts on gratitude.

The past weekend featured several events across District 51. Dr. Hill attended Central High School’s first annual “Break A Leg 5k,” which supported fine arts programs. The event encouraged costumes; Dr. Hill participated in a Buc-ee’s Beaver onesie. He commended Mr. Coronado and Ms. Trujillo along with their students for organizing the event.

Additionally, Dr. Hill attended Palisade Bulldog Football Team’s playoff victory at Stocker Stadium and recognized the efforts of student athletes at regional cheer and dance competitions held at Grand Junction High School.

He also served as emcee for the FIRST LEGO League Competition at Fruita Monument High School where D51 students participated in robotics and coding contests. Dr. Hill gave credit to Aaron Funk and others involved in making the event successful.
