This week, the Superintendent of Mesa County Valley School District 51 continued meeting with student advisory groups at several schools. The meetings took place at Grand Junction High School on Monday, Central High School on Thursday, and Grand River Academy on Friday.

During these sessions, the Superintendent discussed topics such as the influence of technology on adolescents, including how social media and devices affect mood, concentration, and relationships. The importance of students spending time outdoors was also addressed.

The Superintendent thanked Principal Sorensen, Principal Hayward, and Principal States for supporting these discussions. Appreciation was also extended to the students who participated.

“These lunchtime hangouts are one my favorite things to do as the Superintendent, and they give me an opportunity to connect with and hear directly from our D51 students. We chatted about the impact tech (not just phones) have on adolescents, how social media and technology impacts our mood, focus, and relationships, and the importance of students spending time outdoors. Shoutout to Principal Sorensen, Principal Hayward, and Principal States for creating space for me to have these opportunities. And shoutout to the students for being amazing ambassadors for their schools.”
