Mesa County Valley School District 51 Superintendent Dr. Brian Hill shared updates with families and staff as the fall semester enters its final weeks. In his weekly message, Dr. Hill noted that momentum continues across district campuses following Thanksgiving Break.

Dr. Hill visited Shelledy Elementary and Independence Academy Charter this week to present Performance School banners, marking both schools’ third consecutive year earning this recognition. “I’m incredibly proud of our staff, students, and families from these schools, and it’s an honor to recognize their hard work, dedication, passion, and growth,” said Dr. Hill. He also commended school leaders Cami Kidd at Shelledy Elementary and Lisa Gonsalves at Independence Academy for their roles in achieving academic excellence.

All Performance Schools will be formally recognized at the upcoming Board of Education Business Meeting later this month.

Additionally, Dr. Hill visited Fruitvale Elementary School where kindergarten students are learning about community leadership roles. He spoke to four kindergarten classes about his responsibilities as superintendent and answered questions from students. “My favorite answer to the question I asked about how much money we have in our district budget was ‘INFINITY DOLLARS!’ Wouldn’t that be great?!” said Dr. Hill.

Dr. Hill expressed appreciation for Ms. Fletcher and the Fruitvale Kindergarten Team for organizing opportunities for students to learn about local leaders.
