This week, Mesa County Valley School District 51 marked a significant event with the annual October Count, which determines student enrollment numbers and impacts funding for the next school year. The district emphasized that every student’s attendance during this period is important, as Colorado bases its school funding on attendance recorded in October.
The official Count Day took place on October 1. However, students who were enrolled and attending before this date but missed school on October 1 can still be counted if they return before the end of the month. This process underscores the importance of consistent attendance for both students and the district’s financial planning.
Superintendent Dr. Brian Hill acknowledged the efforts of students, staff, families, and community members who regularly support extracurricular activities within the district. He noted his recent attendance at various sporting events, including a softball game between Palisade High School and Fruita Monument High School.
Dr. Hill encouraged continued community involvement by stating: “Be sure to get out and support our students this weekend, and I’ll see y’all at Stoker tonight for the Palisade High School Homecoming football game!”
The district continues to highlight how participation in school activities contributes to a strong sense of community and supports student success.
