Mesa County Valley School District 51 began the new school year with over 19,000 students and more than 3,000 staff members. Superintendent Dr. Brian Hill expressed appreciation for the work done by staff over the summer and into the fall to prepare for the start of classes.

According to Dr. Hill, the district is seeing academic growth and gains across all grade levels. He credited this progress to a focus on goals set out in the district’s Strategic Plan over the past three years.

“We’ve had a fantastic start to the school year, and I’m so encouraged by the energy and excitement across all of our schools. I am so proud of the work of our over 3,000 staff members who have worked hard over the summer and into the fall to make sure we were ready to welcome our over 19,000 students with open arms. The hard work always pays off, and it has definitely paid off over the past few years as we celebrate the academic growth and gains we are seeing across all grade levels. You can read more about it below, but I want to give a huge shoutout to our students, staff, and families for staying laser-focused on the goals and targets in our Strategic Plan over the past three years. We are celebrating outcomes that we have never seen as a district, and that’s good for our students and our entire community. Hearing from staff on our campuses this week, as they shared about the things they are implementing in their schools, it is easy to see why D51 is on the rise, and we’re catching attention across the state. It’s a good time to be a part of the D51 Family,” Dr. Hill stated.

The district reports that these achievements are drawing positive attention statewide.
