As the fall semester concludes, Mesa County Valley School District 51 Superintendent Dr. Brian Hill reflected on recent achievements and ongoing efforts across the district. In a message to families and staff, Hill highlighted progress since August, noting the return of students to improved facilities funded by community-supported bonds.

Hill visited Chipeta Elementary and Taylor Elementary this week to conclude the district’s Performance banner presentations. Chipeta Elementary earned a Performance rating for the fourth consecutive year, increasing its School Performance Framework (SPF) score by nearly five points and ranking in the top ten among D51 elementary schools. Taylor Elementary received a Performance rating for the ninth straight year, improved its SPF score by more than four points, and was recognized as the second highest-scoring school in the district.

During his visits, Hill participated in school events with students and staff. He also acknowledged Board of Education Vice President Woods for attending Taylor’s celebration.

Hill noted that more than 80% of D51 schools achieved Performance status this year—the state’s highest academic rating—resulting in a record 31 schools receiving banners. He attended all assemblies or meetings marking these accomplishments.

“I am incredibly proud of our students, staff, and districtwide supports that have helped more than 80% of our schools earn Performance status, the highest academic rating a school can receive from the state. 31 schools received a Performance banner this year (the most ever in D51), and it was so much fun getting out to all 31 assemblies or staff meetings to celebrate with the schools. Moments like these are a powerful reminder of what’s possible when strong school leadership is paired with dedicated educators and supportive central office teams along with a supportive community,” Hill said.

The superintendent thanked principals Chiaro and Wilson for their leadership at Chipeta and Taylor elementaries respectively.
