As students and staff return from winter break, Mesa County Valley School District 51 has started the new year with a focus on planning and collaboration. Staff used Monday for second-semester planning and Tuesday for building-based in-service activities, allowing time to reconnect and prepare for the coming months.
Superintendent Dr. Brian Hill expressed appreciation for the work of district employees. “I’m grateful for the care, collaboration, and professionalism our teams bring to this work, and for the strong start that sets the tone for a successful second half of the school year,” Hill said.
A key highlight of the week was the announcement of a new partnership between Central High School’s STEM program and Colorado Mesa University Engineering. On Wednesday, staff and students from Central High School’s STEM program joined representatives from Colorado Mesa University and CU Boulder at a signing event to mark this collaboration. The initiative is designed to strengthen connections between K–12 education and higher education in support of student success.
“We are incredibly thankful for our Engaged & Supportive Community Partners at CMU and excited for the doors this will open up for our CHS students,” Hill said.
The district emphasized its excitement about having students back in school buildings as routines resume after winter break.
