The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has called on the U.S. Senate to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act, legislation designed to restore collective bargaining rights for federal employees. The union’s appeal follows an executive order issued by President Donald Trump on March 27, which ended collective bargaining for federal unions.

In response, IAM International President Brian Bryant sent letters to both members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate urging support for the bill, known as H.R. 2550. “IAM International President Brian Bryant sent this letterto members of the U.S. House of Representatives and this letterto members of the Senate, urging their support for the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550), a bipartisan piece of legislation aimed at restoring collective bargaining rights of federal workers.”

The bill was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA). It has garnered strong bipartisan backing.

According to IAM Union officials, collective bargaining is essential for protecting workplace rights and improving public service delivery by federal employees. “Federal workers are essential, and they’re committed to serving the American people. These workers deserve the right of collective bargaining, which provides protections in the workplace and better service to the public, just to name a few benefits.”

The IAM represents thousands of federal workers nationwide through its affiliate, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), which includes about 110,000 federal employees across various sectors in the United States.
