IAM Local 914 held the Gift of Justice Winter Wonderland Black Tie Gala, an event organized by its Human Rights Committee to celebrate the holiday season and recognize those advancing justice, equity, and dignity. The gathering brought together union members, their families, community partners, and leaders for an evening focused on reflection and commitment to justice.
Guests at the gala donated toys that were distributed to two local nonprofit organizations: New Hope Village for Veterans and Parents Engaging Parents. These donations provided gifts to nearly 500 children during the holiday season. Both nonprofits offer support and resources to veterans, parents, and families in need within the community.
“I am deeply honored to accept this award,” said IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen. “Protecting the rights of transportation workers is at the heart of the labor movement—and it is a human rights issue we must never stop fighting for.”
“Solidarity is the foundation of the labor movement, and this recognition reinforces our commitment to fight for dignity, fairness, and justice for all workers,” said IAM Union International President Brian Bryant.
The Beacon of Solidarity Award was presented to IAM International President Brian Bryant. General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes received the Trailblazer Award. The Guardian of Transportation Workers Award went to Richie Johnsen. The Champion of Human Rights Award was given to IAM Human Rights Director Nicole Fears.
“I accept this award on behalf of the union members whose dedication, grit, and unity continue to break barriers and open doors for generations of workers to come,” said Cervantes.
“I am proud to help organize opportunities for our members to gather and give back,” said IAM Local 914 Human Rights Committee Chair Donyea Hoffman. “Our union stands for more than workers’ rights—we stand for strong, thriving communities, and this event lets us put that commitment into action.”
