To support the ongoing construction of the Interstate 25 and US Highway 50B Interchange, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and SEMA Construction will implement a series of overnight closures on I-25 in Pueblo. These closures are necessary to safely demolish the existing US 50B bridge over I-25.
Shane Ferguson, CDOT Regional Transportation Director, stated, “Removal of the US 50B bridge over I-25 is integral to advancing the I-25/US 50B interchange project. The closures are required to ensure the safety of work crews and the traveling public.”
Starting November 7, both northbound and southbound lanes of I-25 at Exit 100A (US 50B) will be closed nightly. Detours will be set up for drivers during these periods. Access at the interchange will remain limited to only northbound I-25 on- and off-ramps until significant portions of the project are completed. Motorists are advised to use Colorado Highway 47 as an alternative route to reach US 50B or return to I-25.
If weather conditions delay scheduled work, activities may be postponed to November 10 through November 14.
For southbound travelers, detours include using Colorado Highway 47 (Exit 101), continuing onto CO 96, then Santa Fe Avenue and 13th Street (Exit 99B) before rejoining southbound I-25. The ramps at Southbound I-25 and 29th Street will be closed; drivers should follow posted detour signs for alternate access.
Northbound motorists should take eastbound US 50B (Exit 100A), then proceed via CO 47 (Exit 318) back onto northbound I-25.
The $114 million project began in December 2024 and involves constructing five new bridges, building retaining walls and noise barriers, reconstructing roadways and ramps, embankment work, safety upgrades, drainage improvements, and erosion control measures. When finished in early summer of 2027, the redesigned interchange—located just north of its current position—will feature a diverging diamond layout intended to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for all users.
