The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and its contractor, Structures Inc., will begin work on Sunday night, August 10, to improve the driving surface of four Interstate 225 bridges over 2nd and 6th avenues in Aurora. The project aims to flatten the elevated slope in the middle of these bridges by applying asphalt between the center and the approaches.

In addition to leveling the lanes, CDOT plans to replace bridge expansion joints with plug joints, repair several concrete panels north of 6th Avenue, install a waterproof overlay, and conduct a strategic mill and overlay. The process involves laying asphalt at gradually decreasing depths from the bridge center toward each approach to create an even roadway surface.

This rehabilitation effort will require overnight single and double lane closures in both directions on I-225 between just north of 6th Avenue (Mile Point 9.5) and just south of Alameda Avenue (Mile Point 7.5). Lane closures are scheduled from Sunday through Thursday nights for approximately three months.

Work will occur in one direction at a time. Single lane closures start at 7 p.m., with double lane closures beginning at 10 p.m. All lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. each day. For the week of August 10, northbound I-225 will be affected on Sunday and Monday nights; southbound I-225 on Tuesday and Wednesday nights; and northbound again on Thursday night.
