The City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department has announced a series of holiday events open to the community in December. These activities are designed for various age groups, including families and older adults.
The first event, the 24th annual Candy Cane Hunt, will take place on Saturday, December 6 at the Lincoln Park Barn. Families can check in starting at 10 a.m., with the hunt beginning at 11 a.m. Crafts, cookies, and hot chocolate will be available before the main activity. Participation is free and does not require preregistration.
Another event is the Senior Holiday Light Tour, which departs from Lincoln Park Barn at 5:15 p.m. Participants will be offered hot chocolate, holiday treats, and live entertainment before embarking on a bus tour of local holiday light displays. The tour concludes around 8:15 p.m. Due to high demand last year, this event will be held on two nights—Wednesday, December 10 and Wednesday, December 17—and is open to those aged 50 or older. Organizers recommend early registration because spots fill quickly. More information is available at gjpr.org/SeniorLightTour.
The Chocolate Walk event is scheduled for Friday, December 12 but has already reached capacity. This guided walking tour along Main Street offers participants a chance to enjoy downtown Grand Junction’s seasonal atmosphere. A waitlist for interested individuals can be found online at gjpr.org/ChocolateWalk.
The final event is the Santa Cause Run on Saturday, December 13 at Las Colinas Amphitheater starting at 10 a.m., organized in partnership with Kiwanis Club of Grand Junction. The run includes both a 5K and a 1K course; proceeds benefit inclusive playground equipment projects such as wheelchair-accessible swings recently installed at Canyon View Park. Registration costs between $20 and $40 and must be completed by Wednesday, December 10 at 5 p.m., according to organizers (gjpr.org/SantaCauseRun).
