The City of Grand Junction has completed the installation of a new public art piece by artist Alex Bond at the roundabout where 24 ½ Road meets Four Canyons Parkway. The city will hold a ribbon-cutting event for the artwork on Tuesday, October 21 at 4 p.m., with the ceremony taking place on the east side of the roundabout. Parking for attendees will be available along Hannah Lane.
In his proposal to the Commission on Arts and Culture, Bond described his work: “The sculpture, titled ‘Superbloom,’ is a large, colorful, and whimsical installation featuring a floral-inspired design meant to evoke a sense of awe and a strong connection to place for both residents and visitors.”
Funding for this project was provided through Grand Junction’s 1% for the Arts Program. This initiative sets aside one percent of certain capital improvement budgets to acquire and display public art across the city. The goal is to broaden opportunities for residents and visitors to encounter art in public spaces.
The selection process for the artist was conducted by the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture, which reviewed multiple proposals from artists before choosing Bond’s design.
