The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce announced on March 20 that it is encouraging the community to support Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents who have worked more than 30 days without pay. The chamber highlighted the ongoing dedication of these employees in keeping the local airport operational and maintaining economic activity.

The initiative matters because TSA agents are essential to airport security and connectivity, yet they are currently working without compensation. The chamber said this situation affects not only the workers but also the broader community that relies on air travel and commerce.

To assist, the Grand Junction Regional Airport has organized a gift card drive for TSA employees. Community members and businesses are encouraged to donate grocery or fuel gift cards in denominations of $10, $20, or $50 from retailers such as City Market, Safeway, Walmart, or Sam’s Club. Visa and Mastercard gift cards cannot be accepted. Gift cards can be dropped off at either the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce during business hours or at a collection box on the second floor of the airport near the TSA checkpoint.

Those wishing to contribute at a higher level can coordinate with Candace Carnahan by emailing candace@gjchamber.org. In addition to gift cards, local restaurants and caterers are invited to provide “shift meals” for TSA staff throughout the day by signing up through a provided link; meal coordination will be handled directly with airport staff.

“This is a simple way for our community to step up and support the people who help keep Grand Junction moving every day,” said representatives from the chamber.

The chamber thanked partners and supporters for their willingness to make a difference during this challenging time.
