The City of Grand Junction announced on April 14 that it will host the annual Southwest Arbor Fest, presented by SavATree, on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lincoln Park. The event will include activities in celebration of both Arbor Day and Earth Day.

The festival aims to bring the community together for environmental awareness and engagement. Organizers said there will be a variety of activities throughout the day designed to promote urban forestry and sustainability.

Arbor Day events are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering free tree seedlings, a silent auction for larger trees, registration for the city’s private ash treatment cost-share program, and tours highlighting notable trees in the area. Details about available tree seedlings can be found online through the event’s website.

City Manager Mike Bennett will be available between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. near the pool entrance for informal conversations with residents about city initiatives and urban forestry programs.

Electronic waste collection is set from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., provided in partnership with Mesa County, Goodwill of Colorado, Dell Reconnect, and the Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office. Most electronics will be accepted at no cost while budgeted funds last; televisions up to forty pounds are included free of charge while heavier units incur a small fee per pound.

From late morning through afternoon (11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.), attendees can enjoy food trucks, craft beer tasting (for those over twenty-one), live music performances by High Desert Sky Band at noon and Schaffer Brothers Band at two o’clock, as well as Theatre in the Park productions and vendor booths representing local businesses and nonprofits.

Those seeking more information or with questions about Southwest Arbor Fest are encouraged to contact Grand Junction Parks and Recreation or visit their office on Gunnison Avenue.
