Union members from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in Florida convened in Tallahassee for a five-day legislative conference. The event brought together active members and retirees who met with state representatives and senators to advocate for labor rights, better wages, and the protection of pensions and Social Security.
Leaders at the conference highlighted their concerns about proposed anti-union legislation. They stressed that such measures could undermine collective bargaining rights and threaten the financial security of working people. “Leaders and activists emphasize the importance of opposing anti-union legislation that threatens the collective bargaining power and financial stability of the working class,” according to a statement from the group.
The IAM members engaged directly with lawmakers, aiming to represent machinists throughout Florida, including those working at major sites like the Kennedy Space Center, South Florida, and the Panhandle. The primary objective was to influence state policy in favor of union workers’ interests ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The conference focused on serving as a political voice for machinists across the state while preparing strategies to improve conditions for union workers in future legislative sessions.
