The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced a weekend closure of the eastbound East Platte Avenue on-ramp to southbound Powers Boulevard. The closure is scheduled from 7 p.m. on Friday, July 25, until 4 a.m. on Monday, July 28, as part of ongoing work for the CO 21 (Powers Boulevard) and Airport Road Interchange Project.
According to CDOT, this full closure is necessary for concrete paving and is intended to ensure worker and traveler safety. “This full closure is needed for worker and traveler safety,” CDOT stated in its announcement.
During the closure, eastbound drivers will be directed by a signed detour route to turn right (south) onto Troy Hill Road, continue south for about one mile, then turn left (east) onto Airport Road to access Powers Boulevard. A temporary all-way stop will be in place at the intersection of Troy Hill Road and Airport Road.
The westbound East Platte Avenue on-ramp to southbound Powers Boulevard will not be affected by this work and will remain open throughout the weekend.
CDOT notes that the schedule may change depending on weather conditions. Message boards near the project site will provide updates with the latest information. The agency also said that “the ramp closure will be removed from the highway in time for the Monday morning commute.”
Traffic impacts during this period include:
– Closure of the ramp from 7 p.m. Friday, July 25 through 4 a.m. Monday, July 28
– Detour via Troy Hill Road and Airport Road
– Doubled traffic fines in the work zone
Motorists are advised to slow down as they approach work zones, drive cautiously, allow extra space between vehicles, and plan for additional travel time.
