The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is warning drivers that a significant snowstorm, the most extensive so far this season, could make Wednesday morning commutes along the Front Range challenging. While Tuesday evening is expected to see minimal impacts in the region, conditions may worsen overnight as snow moves from Western Colorado and spreads eastward.
CDOT crews will be active across the state during the storm, working to clear roads as snowfall begins in Western Colorado on Tuesday and progresses north to south over eastern areas by Wednesday morning. The department specifically notes that commuters traveling between Colorado Springs and Wyoming should be cautious about possible icy patches hidden beneath light snow.
“Just like we saw last week, it only takes a little precipitation and those cold temperatures can make roads very slick,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “Commuters should allow for extra time getting to work on Wednesday and take it slow.”
Drivers are encouraged to check current road conditions at COtrip.org or use the COtrip Planner app before heading out on Wednesday morning.
CDOT also explained that safety closures may be implemented during severe weather events. These closures are designed to prevent accidents, reduce congestion, and maintain traveler safety by stopping traffic on interstates or redirecting vehicles when necessary.
