Alison George, Director of the Division of Housing at the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), will retire on October 15, 2025, after a 15-year tenure. George has played a central role in shaping affordable housing policy and programs in Colorado since joining DOLA in 2010.

During her time as director, the Division of Housing has expanded from 38 to 192 employees. Under her leadership, nearly 20,000 affordable housing units and more than 2,500 homeownership units have been created or preserved. Since the state fiscal year 2020-2021 alone, over 64,000 Coloradans have received emergency housing assistance through programs overseen by George.

Maria De Cambra, Executive Director of DOLA, commented on George’s impact: “We are saying goodbye to one of the most passionate individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the housing space. Alison has always advocated about the profound effect of providing a safe, stable home for those who need it most. Our state will be forever grateful to Alison for everything she’s given to the Division of Housing, DOLA and the people of Colorado.”

George reflected on her career at DOLA: “Working at the Division of Housing with tremendous thought partners, dedicated and passionate staff, and leaders has been a treasured honor for me. Our partners have great dreams and vision, and as a State partner, we support making those visions a reality and turn dreams into homes.”

Her tenure included managing challenges such as tightening housing markets during the Great Recession and leading pandemic response efforts that distributed $1.5 billion in stimulus funds—the largest amount received by any agency in Colorado during that period. The division also launched major rental assistance initiatives like Property Owner Preservation and Colorado Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA), which together supported tens of thousands of households.

George serves as Board President for the Council of State Community Development Agencies (COSCDA) and led efforts that positioned her division as lead agency for both Homeless Management Information System administration and Balance of State provider roles.

The Department plans to post an opening for George’s successor soon on its Career Page to ensure continuity within its leadership team.
