DC Comics has announced a yearlong partnership with Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines (GDA | TLC), a charity supported by the IAM Union. The collaboration aims to highlight the role of trained service dogs in supporting individuals who are blind or visually impaired, veterans with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries, children with autism, and public institutions through facility dogs.

This new initiative builds on last year’s joint effort at San Diego Comic-Con and introduces a DC-sponsored litter of guide and service dog puppies. In an unusual move, GDA | TLC has named this group after well-known DC characters: Krypto, Clark, Lois, Kara, and Lobo.

The organization describes each puppy’s namesake as follows:

“Krypto – Inspired by Superman’s loyal Superdog, where good dogs and great heroes meet

Clark – Mild-mannered, kind-hearted, and guided by strong morals

Lois – Smart, fearless, and always determined

Kara – Powerful, courageous, and learning to harness incredible abilities

Lobo – Bold, fearless, and unforgettable”

After completing their initial training phase known as puppy pre-kindergarten, these dogs will continue their development with volunteer puppy raisers. The goal is for them to eventually provide independence and companionship to people in need.

Fans of DC Comics and supporters of GDA | TLC can follow the progress of these puppies throughout the year via special events and social media updates. There will also be opportunities for fans to meet the puppies in person at San Diego Comic-Con in July.
