CU Boulder and CU Denver announced on March 19 that they are expanding their Data Advocacy for All initiative, which helps students develop skills to use data for impact as well as analysis.
The expansion is supported by a CU Next Award from the University of Colorado system. The award will allow the project to broaden its focus on data humanities education, giving students more opportunities to learn how to ethically interpret, communicate, and apply data to real-world challenges.
Through the program, students use open-source tools and hands-on coursework to explore how data can reveal patterns affecting communities across Colorado. One area of study examines how climate-driven natural hazards might impact economically vulnerable communities. This approach helps students understand how data can inform decisions and raise public awareness.
A video accompanying the announcement shows how CU students and faculty are using data advocacy to better understand complex challenges and turn information into action.
The initiative aims to prepare students not only for technical roles but also for civic engagement by teaching them how responsible use of data can make a difference in society.
