Colorado’s Department of the Treasury is urging residents to check the Great Colorado Payback database for unclaimed property, noting that even major professional sports teams in the state have money waiting to be claimed.
The Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Avalanche are among 15 million individuals and organizations listed as having unclaimed assets held by the state. These assets can include old refund checks, forgotten gift cards, or items from safe deposit boxes such as collectible baseball cards.
“Unclaimed property belongs to people and organizations across Colorado—including some of our most beloved sports teams,” said Colorado State Treasurer Dave Young. “We want to get these funds back to where they belong, whether that’s helping Colorado families, businesses, or even a professional franchise. Make a play to recover your lost funds. You may score big!”
The Unclaimed Property Division currently holds more than $2 billion in assets until rightful owners or heirs come forward. Each year new funds are reported and added to the database.
“Every year, new funds are reported to our office, and we work to make sure they get back to the right people and organizations,” said Unclaimed Property Director Bianca Gardelli. “If these dollars can make a difference for big teams, imagine how much they can help schools, local businesses, or families across Colorado.”
This summer, outreach efforts included connecting with fans at three Colorado Rockies games where hundreds searched for their names in the database and started claims on-site.
The Treasury encourages everyone in Colorado to search for their name or organization using the free online service at GreatCOPayback.com.
