The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has announced several public engagement opportunities for January, including comment periods and hearings on a range of utility issues. The PUC emphasizes the importance of community input in its decision-making process.
Public participation is encouraged through comment submissions, informational meetings, and stakeholder sessions. Information about upcoming events is available on the PUC Calendar, and related documents can be accessed via the Commission’s e-filings page. A new email address, dora_puc_comments@state.co.us, has been introduced to receive public comments; individuals are asked to include proceeding numbers when submitting feedback.
On January 7, the 9-1-1 Services Enterprise Board will hold its monthly meeting virtually at 3 PM.
A virtual public comment hearing is scheduled for January 8 regarding rulemaking for wayside system detectors in rail safety. This session addresses permanent rules requiring annual reporting by railroads on their detector systems and procedures for blocked crossings. These rules stem from HB24-1030 and follow temporary regulations established last year. The hearing begins at 11:30 AM.
The Commission will accept virtual public comments during its second weekly meeting of the month on January 14 at 9 AM. Registration is encouraged but not required. Comments must not address matters currently before the commission or items listed on that meeting’s agenda.
On January 20, a remote hearing will gather public input on Xcel Energy’s proposed Gas Infrastructure Plan for 2025–2030 (Proceeding No. 25A-0220G). The plan outlines approximately 60 projects and seeks approval for two major initiatives: the Louisville to Rollins Pass Project and the Speer Canal Interconnects Project. The proposal aims to meet standards related to safety, reliability, resiliency, emissions reduction, and protection of income-qualified customers as well as disproportionately impacted communities.
An in-person hearing concerning Xcel Energy’s Colorado Power Pathway project siting in El Paso County will take place on January 26 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Swink Hall in Calhan (Proceeding No. 25A-0355E). Attendees will have access to light refreshments, a children’s activity table, and interpretation services in ASL and Spanish if requested two weeks prior by contacting Megan.Castle@state.co.us.
Written comments may be submitted online via the Commission’s form or by email at dora_puc_comments@state.co.us. Mail-in options are also available at Colorado Public Utilities Commission, 1560 Broadway, Suite 250, Denver, CO 80202. Oral comments can be left by calling (303) 869-3490 with English and Spanish language options provided.
Further details about all events can be found on the PUC Calendar.
“Comments may not be about any matter currently before the commission, which includes any topic on the agenda for that meeting and comments specific to any currently pending proceeding,” according to information provided by the PUC.
