Mavs Take Over the Mountain, an annual event organized by Colorado Mesa University (CMU), will return to Powderhorn Mountain Resort on Saturday, January 31. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is aimed at bringing together CMU students and alumni for a day of activities on the slopes.

Gabe Simon, Manager of Student Life Operations at CMU, said, “Mavs Take Over the Mountain is one of my favorite CMU traditions because it shows just how powerful the Mavily truly is.” He added, “Whether it’s a student experiencing Powderhorn for the first time or a seasoned regular, it’s an event that shows we are more than what you see on campus.”

Participants will receive special discounts exclusive to this event. Activities planned include music provided by student DJs outside the main lodge and additional entertainment from KMSA at the top of the mountain. There will also be giveaways, a scavenger hunt, and swag bags hidden across the mountain. A $50 learn-to-ski or board package and discounted lift tickets are available for attendees.

Transportation will be provided with buses departing from the Outdoor Program to make sure all students can participate regardless of vehicle access.

Simon noted, “Seeing your friends and making new friends is what makes it all worth it to me. Powderhorn is such a gem to the community but seeing the extra Maverick flair Mavs Take Over the Mountain brings to the day warms my heart.”

The tradition aims to strengthen connections among members of the CMU community beyond campus life.
