CMU Stages at Colorado Mesa University is organizing a film series titled “Reaching for the Stars” at the Asteria Theatre in April. The event will feature two films: “Apollo 13” on April 7 and “Guardians of the Galaxy” on April 14, both scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Proceeds from this series will go toward the Reaching for the Stars Cultural Enrichment Program and Endowed Fund. This fund supports the Department of Theatre Arts in continuing its productions and provides ticket donations to youth in the community.

The Department of Theatre Arts aims to offer students a broad education that prepares them for various professional opportunities in theater. At the same time, it works to make high-quality performances accessible to people throughout the region by supporting initiatives like Reaching for the Stars.

The program also gives Grand Valley students access to theater tickets, focusing on helping low-income families in Mesa County. By reducing financial and cultural barriers, it seeks to ensure that every child and teenager in western Colorado can attend a live performance at Colorado Mesa University before graduating high school.

In addition to film screenings, events under this initiative have included talks by notable speakers such as Neil deGrasse Tyson. These events are designed to foster curiosity about science and culture while strengthening community connections. All proceeds support the Reaching for the Stars Endowed Fund.

Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.cmstages.com/tickets.
