The Colorado Medical Society has announced new efforts to address physician suicide by sharing a range of resources aimed at improving physician wellbeing. The organization is encouraging the medical community and the public to recognize National Physician Suicide Awareness Day (#NPSADay) by visiting NPSADay.org for information on how to take action.

“Today, help us recognize #NPSADay by visiting NPSADay.org and learn how you can take action. We must shift the current practice landscape to better support a culture of wellbeing and come together to take the necessary actions to reduce burnout, safeguard job satisfaction, remove barriers to seeking mental health services and de-stigmatize seeking these services.”

The society’s initiative includes distributing suicide prevention materials, offering guidance on starting conversations about mental health, providing crisis management plans, and encouraging regular check-ins with physicians. Additional recommendations involve removing intrusive mental health questions from professional settings and fostering an environment that supports overall wellbeing.

The campaign highlights the importance of learning key warning signs, reflecting on mental health regularly, preparing in advance for potential crises, and creating supportive workplace cultures.
