The Colorado Medical Society Education Foundation (CMSEF) has opened applications for its Rural Track Scholarship. The scholarship is available to medical students in good academic standing who are completing their first or second year in a rural medicine track at either the University of Colorado School of Medicine or Rocky Vista University School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Applicants must submit an essay, limited to 500 words, and a curriculum vitae by April each year. Scholarships will be awarded by June 1. According to the CMSEF, strong essays should include reasons for entering the rural track, why rural medicine is the best choice for the applicant, and convincing arguments that the applicant intends to practice in rural Colorado.

Additional factors considered by the selection committee include graduating from high school in a rural Colorado county, current legal residency in Colorado, clear intent to work in a specific rural community within the state, social or family ties to that community, and demonstrated humanitarian service experience.

Students are not eligible to receive this award more than once.
