The Colorado Department of Natural Resources has launched ColoradoRiver.com, a new website designed to provide information and resources about the Colorado River. The announcement was made by Governor Jared Polis during the Colorado Water Congress in Steamboat Springs.
“I am excited to announce today that we are launching ColoradoRiver.com as the official source for all information on our namesake river,” said Gov. Polis. “Colorado has always been the leader in the basin. This website will serve as an educational hub with maps, snowpack and flow data, and policy discussions, all managed here at the source in Colorado.”
The launch aligns with the timing of the summer conference to highlight Colorado’s ongoing role in river management and collaboration within the basin. The Colorado River supports more than 40 million people and 30 Tribal Nations, irrigates over 5 million acres of farmland, and is vital to a $1.4 trillion economy across seven U.S. states and Mexico.
ColoradoRiver.com provides interactive maps detailing water use along the river, real-time updates on reservoir levels and snowpack conditions, educational material about its history and environmental issues, news from across the basin, and downloadable resources for further study.
“I’m excited to connect with people across the Basin in ways that help them understand the Colorado River and stay informed on the work to keep it sustainable for generations to come,” said Becky Mitchell, Colorado’s Commissioner to the Upper Colorado River Commission. “ColoradoRiver.com is a place to see the full picture of what this resource means to millions across the West — so people can understand the stakes, and why we’re working hard to protect it.”
The site aims to inform visitors about current challenges facing the river while focusing on sustainable management based on available water supply rather than demand.
