Educators in Colorado are taking steps to address issues in public education through a year-round organizing initiative led by the Colorado Education Association (CEA). The Year Round Organizing (YRO) Program involves teachers, education support professionals, and special service providers who commit to ongoing community engagement.

The YRO program aims to increase collective influence and strengthen relationships among educators, parents, local businesses, and community members. According to the CEA, these efforts focus on addressing the state’s school funding crisis. “The YRO program is about educators leading in their own communities while connecting to a bigger, statewide vision for fully funded public education in Colorado. When we organize locally, we win together,” the organization stated.

Member organizers across regions—including Aurora-Littleton, Boulder-Westminster, Front Range, Denver, Jefferson County, Central Adams, Pikes Peak, Two Rivers, Spanish Peaks, Southeast, Big Thompson, and Ski Country—are conducting one-on-one conversations with colleagues and meeting with parents and community leaders. They also welcome new educators into union membership and connect local initiatives with statewide campaigns for improved funding.

“Every conversation strengthens our movement. Every connection brings us closer to winning the schools our students deserve. Every conversation builds the trust and unity we need to win,” said CEA representatives.

Individuals interested in participating are encouraged to contact Jackie Parkins, CEA Zone Organizer.
