The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), working with Elam Construction, has announced the near completion of a resurfacing and culvert improvement project on Colorado Highway 151, located east of Ignacio. The project covered approximately 13 miles of rural road between the La Plata/Archuleta county line and Old Coal Mine Road, spanning from mile point 12.8 to mile point 26.

According to CDOT, work began on February 17, 2025. Crews are currently addressing final punch list items in preparation for the planned completion date of November 21, just before the winter holiday season.

A statement from CDOT described the improvements: “The new asphalt road surface with a fresh coat of reflective paint striping on CO 151 between Ignacio and Chimney Rock National Monument.”

The resurfacing aims to enhance driving conditions along this section of highway ahead of increased seasonal travel.
