The U.S. Census Bureau announced on March 10 that it will provide a two-day embargo period for qualified media to access the Vintage 2025 population estimates. The embargo will allow journalists to review data on total population and demographic changes for U.S. counties, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, as well as Puerto Rico municipios, covering changes from April 1, 2020, through July 1, 2025.
The embargo period is scheduled from Tuesday, March 24 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time until Thursday, March 26 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time. During this time, registered media can view the estimates through the Census Bureau’s embargo site.
According to the announcement, “Embargo subscribers may interview Census Bureau experts during the embargo period.” Media representatives interested in interviews are instructed to email the Census Bureau for arrangements.
To participate in the embargo, journalists must register on the Census Bureau’s embargo site and are encouraged to confirm their login credentials by March 23. For any issues related to access or registration, assistance is available via email.
The Census Bureau emphasized that no information obtained under embargo may be published or shared before the public release date of Thursday, March 26 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time.
This process allows news organizations early access to important demographic data while ensuring coordinated public dissemination.
