The U.S. Census Bureau will begin an embargo for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates on September 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The public release of these statistics is scheduled for September 11.

The ACS collects and provides detailed information about people and housing in the United States, including topics such as language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent data, income, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. It remains the only source of local estimates for most of its more than 40 topics.

Subscribers to the embargo will have access to the one-year statistics starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET through September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. These statistics will cover all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, all congressional districts and metropolitan statistical areas, as well as other geographic areas with populations of at least 65,000.

Wire and distribution services are not allowed to distribute news stories or data files from the embargoed material before it becomes publicly available. The Census Bureau’s embargo policy outlines these restrictions in detail. All related data products—including those on data.census.gov, through the API, summary files, and other tools—will be made available to everyone by 10 a.m. ET on September 11.
