The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in partnership with Myers and Sons Construction, has started drainage improvement work on a one-mile stretch of Interstate 70 near Exit 285, close to Airport Boulevard in Adams County. The project aims to better manage stormwater and enhance safety for drivers, with completion expected by mid-December.
According to CDOT, the work involves cleaning existing pipes and drains, upgrading drainage structures, installing new trench drains, and adding a channel filtration system. These measures are designed to improve water flow and reduce flooding risks. Crews will also remove debris, protect inlets, and connect new concrete pipes to the current drainage system.
Other improvements include installing new guardrails, signage, striping, and barriers. CDOT states that these upgrades will help prevent hydroplaning and ice formation while improving driver visibility. The enhancements are also expected to extend the lifespan of the roadway by protecting it from water damage.
To facilitate barrier installation safely, the I-70 off-ramp to Airport Boulevard will be closed overnight on Monday, November 3rd, and tentatively Tuesday, November 4th from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. During this period, there will also be an eastbound right lane closure on I-70 near Mile Point 284.
Drivers heading eastbound on I-70 toward Airport Boulevard are advised to use Exit 283 for Chambers Road as an alternative route. From Chambers Road, motorists should turn left onto East 32nd Avenue and continue straight until reaching Airport Boulevard; then turn right for southbound or left for northbound directions.
The improvements cover a one-mile segment of I-70 near Exit 285 toward Airport Boulevard.
