Motorists in Pueblo should prepare for two weekend closures on US Highway 50B as the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and SEMA Construction work to install new drainage pipes beneath the highway. The construction is part of the Interstate 25 and US 50B Interchange project. Each closure will affect one direction of traffic at a time between I-25 and Hudson Avenue/Bonforte Boulevard, beginning with eastbound US 50B this coming weekend.

The closure for eastbound US 50B from I-25 to Hudson Avenue/Bonforte Boulevard will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 12, and continue until 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 14. During this period, there will be no access to eastbound US 50B from either southbound or northbound I-25 at the interchange. CDOT has outlined detours for affected drivers: northbound I-25 travelers can use the US 50B/CO 47 off-ramp and travel east on CO 47 (Exit 101) to reach US 50; those heading southbound should use the City Center Drive off-ramp (Exit 98B), proceed east on City Center Drive, north on Chester Avenue, then east on East 4th Street (CO 96) to access US 50.

Westbound closures will also occur from I-25 to Hudson Avenue/Bonforte Boulevard. For drivers seeking northbound I-25, the detour directs them northeast on Bonforte Boulevard, north on Jerry Murphy Road, and west on CO 47 to reach their destination. Southbound I-25 travelers are advised to go south on Hudson Avenue, west on East 4th Street (CO 96), north on Santa Fe Avenue, then east on 13th Street (Exit 99B).

According to CDOT officials: “These closures are necessary for the safety of the traveling public.”

The drainage improvements are part of ongoing efforts by CDOT and its contractor partner SEMA Construction to enhance road infrastructure in Pueblo.
