Applications are now open for the American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation’s 2026 Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarships and Excellence in Medicine Awards.

Medical students interested in tuition assistance can apply for one of the 18 available $10,000 scholarships. According to the AMA Foundation, applicants must be rising final-year students set to graduate in 2027. Most applicants are typically in their third year during the application cycle, but those enrolled in five-year or dual-degree programs, or taking a research year, may apply either during their third year or before their final year. Eligible candidates must also be currently enrolled at an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school in the United States and must be permanent residents, U.S. citizens, or have DACA status. The deadline for scholarship applications is Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:59 p.m. MT.

The foundation clarified that “AMA membership or non-membership is not taken into consideration when determining recipients.” Applications can be submitted through https://amafoundation.secure-platform.com/a.

Nominations are also being accepted for the AMA Foundation’s 2026 Excellence in Medicine Awards. These awards recognize physicians and advocates who demonstrate volunteerism, community engagement, leadership, and dedication to underserved populations. The nomination deadline is Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10:59 p.m. MT.

Recipients of the Excellence in Medicine Awards will be honored at a ceremony during the AMA House of Delegates Annual Meeting in Chicago in June and will receive a $2,500 grant honorarium directed to a health-focused nonprofit organization of their choice.
